This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's big sedan receives a number of updates for 2003. A new full-perimeter frame uses strong, lightweight hydroformed steel sections for the front rails to improve frontal and offset crash performance. Redesigned frame crossmembers and new optional side impact airbags improve side impact crash performance. Additionally, the new frame -- combined with a redesigned independent front suspension and new monotube shock absorbers -- contributes to a smoother, more controlled ride and improved handling. Other changes include a new variable ratio rack and pinion steering system with variable power assist and a new dual-rate brake booster that automatically supplies full braking power in a panic stop. Inside, revised seats offer improved comfort and appearance; the cupholders are new; and a three-point seatbelt has been added for the rear center passenger.

Pros:
  • Rear-wheel drive, plenty of interior space, comfortable ride, excellent crash-test results.
Cons:
  • Large size makes it difficult to park and maneuver.

  • FRONT SEAT PROBLEMS - 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

GREAT CAR EXCEPT FOR FRONT SEAT. I AM A MALE WHO WHEIGHS 260LBS AND FIND THAT ON LONG DRIVES THE FRONT SEAT BECOMES VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. DID A RECENT SURVEY WALKING ACROSS PARKING LOTS AND NOTICED THAT 95% OF THESE CARS HAVE PILLOWS OR SOME TYPE OF CUSHONING ON THE SEAT. WHAT A SHAME FORD. BAD ENOUGH FOR ME TO WANT TO SELL CAR. HAVE 2 OTHER CARS THAT HAVE NO PROBLEM AT ALL IN THIS AREA.

  • Fourht One of these in a decade! - 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

This is 4th CV I have purchased new in a decade. All of them have been EXTREMELY reliable and trouble free. Gas mileage is very good - comparable to smaller cars with six cylinder power. ONLY complaint ... needs to have a bit more power - ALL CVs need the extra power from dual exhaust. Best value in a car today, considering cost, maintenance, upkeep.

Too much wind turbelence and had defective steering box, replaced at 2000 miles, damaged arm rest, they installed one with a fabric that did not match. AC had leak and would not cool properly-dealer is rated tops in south but wonder why as too many complaints and mad people when you visit. Requires one to fill out survey about service when vehicle is picked but tell you what you report goes against service writer. That way they manipulate the owner into giving them a good review.

  • Not just for taxi cabs and police cars! - 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

This is far and away the best ride Ive ever owned. The interior is very roomy and quiet. The leather seats are so comfortable, especially on long road trips. It is amazing nimble for such a large car and I love the power under the hood. Surprisingly good gas mileage for an 8 cylinder engine makes it an excellent commute car.

Weve been buying CV’s for many years and owned at least 4 or 5. We currently own 2. What makes it great is its safety, it is constructed on a metal frame/foundation. My mother was in accident in which she was rearended and smashed from the front. The other cars were wrecked, the CV was fine and no one was seriously hurt. My father will not drive any other car and i definetly agree with him. Best part is people assume youre a police cruiser and tend to get out of your way. Id reccomend this car for anyone in the market for such a vehicle. The only negative is people who get car sick will get sick quicker due to its smooth ride.

Great road car. Very comfortable, quiet and responsive. Good gas mileage-never below 20mpg even in city. Open road always 25mpg or better.

Bought LX Sport 2003 for 40% off MSRP used and enjoy every moment of ride. It is a lot of car for money. I have all luxury options, excluding only heated seats and sun roof. I like firm suspension, handling, amazing passing power on high speeds. Car is big and VERY comfortable. On negative side has more inside noise than my 10 year old Grand Marquis. Since mine is black, have to mention police car effect on the road.

This is not your grandpas Crown Vic! I have a black on black, VERY nice look! At first I wanted the Merauder but for $ 7,000 more Mercury can keep it. All thats lacking is about 60hp which with a couple of cheap add ons, youre right there. I intend to keep this car for a long time. The only thing it lacks is a sun roof and manual trans. Believe it or not!

Ride and handling are excellent but not for long trips. Bucket seats should be standard on all models as well as a gps system for police models. Otherwise leave well enough alone and keep making a quality product. I love my "Vic."
